This dialogue will help you be a lot more socially correct. This may not make you prince charming, but it’s a start.
You show up at the housewarming party with nada. The guilt begins when you see party goers donning a bottle of wine, or fancy wrapped package. What went wrong?
Please don’t think of manners as a social rule to rage against. Politeness and consideration go a long way to make a host feel good (and have another party.) One of the easiest to make the party giver feel special is to offer a gift. Some people like to bring alcohol, but if things get out of control, you wouldn’t want to be the bottle that broke the camel’s. Another way to go would be to bring some high end, gourmet coffee, preferably Fair Trade organic coffee. If you like the idea of bringing a beverage and wine or coffee aren’t suitable, then seasonal fruit drinks from local produce stands are the next best stand in. If you aren’t near produce stands, and you aren’t sure what to get, the last choice for the drink category is fruit teas. Almost everyone loves fruit teas. There are so many flavors out there, that the skies the limit. My preference changes, but right now I’m in to kiwi tea.
Obviously, we’ve covered beverages, so lets move on to food. The healthy choice is a vegetable offering with a spicy dipping sauce. Lay out the snack on a nice, inexpensive serving dish. These are readily found at thrift stores, chain retail outlets, and antique stores. If you ever come across a good deal on serving trays, stock up for later. Make sure you give a card so that they know the platter doesn’t have to be returned at all.
If you don’t like the idea of food or drink you may want to consider bringing flowers, a gift basket, or a potted plant. It is always best to avoid strong drink, pictures of yourselves (unless you are attending a family event), and work related items. Include a card with every gift so that you get the credit for being the best guest in the crowd!
If you want to give a real classy gift look no further than the fabulous coffee gift baskets from Nectar of Life Coffee. You can’t go wrong with Nectar of Life. Not only are they a organic Fair Trade coffee roaster and artisan, but they specialize in organic Fair Trade coffee.
