Making Perfume In Your Own Home

With the economy taking a bath many people are finding the cost of perfume to be more than they can afford. Not many people think of it but you can make your own perfumes at home and this can save a lot of expenses. It is not as difficult as you might imagine and home made perfume makes the perfect gift for your friends.

You can put the ingredients together using standard kitchen equipment and the ingredients are easily obtained. You might imagine you need a laboratory and a white coated scientist but that just isn’t the case.

The first thing to do is to decide on the type of perfume you want to make and then get all the ingredients together. The perfume you make yourself will be largely made up of water, essential oils and pure grain alcohol or you can simply use vodka. These will be the basic ingredients that are mostly used but you can add further scents if you feel the need. The different types of perfumes we are all familiar with are cologne, Eau De Cologne and Eau de Toilette. It is a little more involved to make a proper perfume because they are made with blends of animal and vegetable oils.

The perfumes we make at home are basically made with plant oils. These are inexpensive and are readily available from your local stores. When we have obtained all the ingredients and got all of the equipment we will require together we can get on and make the perfume.

The essential oil used to make your perfume will be the most important ingredient in making the scent. You get different results with each one as the chemical make up of them all is quite different. Knowing about the base note, the middle, top and bridge notes will help as these are all terms used to describe the perfume.

You can find books and other information about making perfume at home on the Internet and you can buy kits that come complete with an instructional manual. It makes things easy having a kit and since they don’t cost a great deal it might be worth getting a kit when you start out.
