Why Does Your Mirror Look Cloudy?

There are a number of questions about why mirrors do what they do once the start to age and today I want to focus on why they become cloudy and how you can go about cleaning them.

If you own a full length mirror and is now worn out and cloudy one thing I can say is that you are together with millions of others across the globe. I have been there; I can bet that you neighbour has owned one too. I tried everything I could to clean it until I got rid of it only to discover the best cleaning methods months after I had gotten rid of it.

Now what if you do not want to replace it for one reason or the other? Is there really a way to clean it? As a decorative mirrors expert let me provide some few tips you can try out. You can use these suggestions for a variety of mirrors including unframed, oversized, compact, large or even full length tri fold mirror.

You can simply clean them with some water. Warm or hot water would do the job just fine. Keep the water pure i.e. without adding any additives. I know that this can work well especially for plexy glass.

Also try using some vinegar and a newspaper to wipe of the cloudiness. If it was once cleaned with some oily or greasy stuff then this could work quite well.

Try a spray cleaner like Windex for some more alternatives. Spray cleaners work well generally well for some oversized bathroom mirrors and not for others. This is why you should not worry too much if this option does not work for you – just move on to the next option.

If you are having difficulty with having them clean by using any of my recommendations, then probably there are other reasons why it is cloudy. Maybe the problem is with the silver on the back of the mirror i.e it could be peeling off. This could be a cause to get rid of it but if you really can’t then try to get it re-slivered.
